Purpose of this Session
The teaching ministry flows through all of Christian life, beginning in the home, and flowing to the nations. Although some are particularly called to this ministry in a specific way, all are called to engage in teaching others at some level.
i. The whole Body is called to teach, disciple and encourage one another in the things of God (Matt 28:20; Col 3:16). All are expected to develop in the Word to the point where they are able to teach others and bring others to a higher level of understanding (Heb 5:11-14; Titus 2:1-5)
ii. Parents are called to teach their children in the Word (Deut 6:7). The home is the primary place where teaching should be conducted, with the church confirming that which is already being taught there.
iii. Elders are to be able to teach the Word of God (1Tim 3:2; 2Tim 2:24). This does not mean that they must all be teachers in a five fold capacity, but nevertheless all elders must have a firm grasp of the Scriptures and be able to explain and apply them as they help, serve and lead others.
iv. Teachers in the Body of Christ (Eph 4:11; 1Cor 12:28,29)
These are the teachers that the Teacher, Jesus Christ, has given to His Body, to equip them for the work of the ministry.
